I upgraded one of my Soekris net4801 boxes to 1.8.4b11 today and now I am getting hundreds of alert emails from my QNAP NAS.
The email simply says:
---- root@smallwall-8.no-ip.org:/usr/SmallWall/build84/tmp/sys/i386/compile/M0N0WALL_GENERIC i386 Server Name: 192.168.x.x IP Address: 192.168.x.x Date/Time: Apr 6 20:58:33
gcc version 4.2.1 20070831 patched [FreeBSD] ----
I am logging to a remote syslog server on my NAS but I have not changed the configuration of smallwall since 2017 so I anticipate something in 1.8.4b11 is different wrt syslog. The only thing remotely interesting in the syslog file is the kernel messages from rebooting smallwall after upgrading.

rsyslog is configured to only send email when the syslog message is "critical" or above in the level of severity.

What are the logs showing? I am not seeing this on any of mine...

Lee, I did a grep | wc -l on "kernel" and it looks like my NAS is seeing those entries and freaking out as the number of emails equals the number of lines containing "kernel." Those are displayed typically during boot. I added a filter to my NAS to not report those messages although, in hind site, that may prevent me from seeing kernel issues post-boot sequence. It look like the issue is predominately on the QNAP side but perhaps the boot messages are slightly different in 1.8.4b11?

Lol! Yeah, BSD and Linux use the word differently in the logs. I Linux a kernel error is a big deal. In BSD it is just informative.
