I typically only use USB flash drives or msata. These devices would not benefit from the hard disk standby time option on the advanced page. It confuses me as to why the option shows "always on" when it should probably show "Off" by default. I looked at the php code in the system_advanced.php page and didn't see where the value "always on" actually does anything. In the notes section directly below the option is says "Do not set this for CF cards". What am I missing here?

The hard-drive motor is "always on".

I understand that's what it means for a hard drive motor. I think it's kind of odd really. I think it should show "Off" or just be blank instead of "Always on".
Hard disk standby time = "Always on"
vs
Hard disk standby time = " " Hard disk standby time = "Off"

Of all the things I would like to see changed and/or added to SmallWall, this one isn't even on my radar. I think we have much bigger fish to fry here. But you are always welcome to submit some code to Lee and see what he thinks.

Actually, the power savings settings have names. And "Always On" is a setting or drop-down for a hard drive never spinning down that was mostly consistent across platforms. It is only in recent versions of Windows that "Always On" was replaced with "Spindown -> Never" as the drop down option. However, you are correct in that the explanation is inconsistent with newer versions of Windows and could use some rewording. It is on my bug list, and I will get to it when I can. Of course my bug list is getting long now that more peop0le are testing.
