Will there be some way to easily convert an existing m0n0wall firewall to SmallWall? It would be really cool if the first production release of SmallWall could be uploaded as a firmware update to an existing m0n0wall installation, and retain the configuration. That would certainly make the transition painless. I'm not a developer, so I'm not sure where everything is headed. I'm just a longtime m0n0wall user looking for a way to ensure my production firewalls continue to get updates. Thank you!

If you are running any 1.8 version of m0n0wall you are good-2-go! Just do a firmware update with the correct version of SmallWall. However, I would highly recommend saving your config first. I always save two just in case one is un-readable.

Good question!
SmallWall is meant to be a continuation of m0n0wall, and is a clean upgrade from any 1.8 version. It should also upgrade from 1.34a, but I have not tested it. Any 1.3 versions prior to 1.34a will need 1.34a as a step upgrade to increase the file space for the upgrade. The same type of thing happened in the 1.2 series, and 1.3b7 is needed to allow 1.3 upgrades. So...
If you are on 1.2x, you need 1.3b7 to go to 1.3x
If you are on early 1.3x, you need 1.34a to go to 1.8, or SmallWall.
If you are on 1.8.x, you can go to SmallWall.
As stated above, config backups are recommended. Not just for backups eaither. Hard drives do fail.

That's awesome! You might want to consider clearly stating that on the SmallWall website, because I have a feeling others will be wondering the same thing. I know this whole project just started, but do you have any idea when your first stable release will be coming out?

The beta we are working on now is feature locked. Once there are no reported bugs for a bit, we will have a release. I hate to set a date, (That is asking for trouble) but before April 1 would be nice.  Right now I have a few branding bugs left and one cli bug to quash... |

Ok, so I am a bit behind (ver 1.231). You say: "If you are on 1.2x, you need 1.3b7 to go to 1.3x"
However, I cannot find that in the M0N0Wall old versions. What am I missing?
