Just to get a feel for how much older stuff is out there and where... How much memory is in your firewall? If you have more than one, pick the weaker one. And this is ram, not flash. If you have no clue (I didn't) go to the hidden exec.php page (your-firewall/exec.php) and type "top -d1" to get a one line top that includes ram use. You may have to do some math.

I find it easier to use dmesg run from exec.php and look for the line that is within the first 20 or so lines.

Running rock solid on my ancient Soekris net4801 (128MB RAM), and plan on running it for as long as the hardware keeps going. Glad to see the project picked up. Thanks!

I have a couple old Soekris running - a net4501 at my desk at work, roughly configured to match the network configuration in our retail locations, and a net5501-60 at home. A manager at work went a little crazy about a decade ago and bought 250 of the net4501 so they're sprinkled all over the place doing silly things. I answered for the 5501 because the 4501 hasn't been upgraded or otherwise touched in quite a while and I don't think of it as "production." The one at home is very much "production" - happy wife, happy life.

Somewhat related - it would be slick if smallwall reported both total (real) memory as well as available memory. The UI just says memory but I was able to deduce it was available memory by running dmesg.
I am between jobs and able to contribute changes like this if there is a way to do so.
Thanks!

I admin 8 net4801 units with 128MB RAM and another half dozen with 256MB RAM and both do very well with Smallwall. I am hoping to find a few net4801-70 models with 512MB RAM but until then...

Just test the changes and get them to me, and I can add them.
