Hi guys,
Kindly assist / advice anyway you can, if you can...I will highly appreciate.
I'm still new to m0n0wall / Smallwall and I'm trying to learn a few things here and there through experimentation...I seem to be stuck with the traffic shaper tho'.
I've been researching all over the net reading anything I can about traffic shaping and QoS trying to understand the best way to deploy traffic shaping on Smallwall.
First of all I have to and I'm using the "Share bandwidth evenly on LAN"--(I cant do without this feature in my environment and thank you for this), at first I also had the "lower p2p traffic priority" box checked but then I realized that the wizard creates alot of unnecessary port based rules and since I don't have control over clients port usage I had to uncheck that box. The shaper seems to work but sometimes the connection gets saturated opening web pages becomes a problem so I decided to do some tweaks and gave priority to ACK and DNS, I also tweaked the queue sizes and added a rule to limit p2p for outgoing port 1024 - 65534 (I know its hard to control p2p but I'm just looking on ways to try and limit).
I've attached my traffic shaper current setup, kindly let me know if its anything close to what you could use or what do I need to change or how should I do it, how many queues should I have, how many rules, just give me a direction to make my clients browse happily, my main priority is browsing the web and downloading and uploading mail attachments, no Voip, no games. As you can see I dont have alot of bandwidth; only 1770kbps down & 550kbps up after alot of speedtests.
Just tell me which way to go for better results. I have no problem with deleting everything and starting all over again.
Regards
Cosmas.
