Same here. The only thing that bit me was that I downloaded the signed image and it was giving me an error saying the image was corrupted. Worked a treat after switching to unsigned. L2TP is working great!

Thank you, Stan The best method to follow is here. www.smallwall.org/docs/qsg-update.html If it is in any way unclear, LET ME KNOW! I really want documentation to be "smooth as butter" for everyone.

Lee,
I used the .img file and upgraded from monowall at two sites. It DID go like butter!

The only suggestion I'd have is to remove the word "older" from "Unsigned Images (For upgrades of older m0n0wall firewalls)" in the download page. For know-it-alls like yours truly, who didn't bother to read the "How to Install" doc, I took this to mean it was only necessary for old versions of m0nowall, before the images were signed. Now that I type this, maybe you meant to say "other m0n0wall firewalls", as in, "m0n0wall and other derivatives"? I don't know, it's not a big deal, but I just wanted to explain why I had to download the image three times.

Ahhh... On the download page. Gotcha. I can see that.

Update from m0n0wall 1.8.1 to SmallWall "Generic PC - generic-pc-1.8.3-unsigned.img" don't work for us. After restart we get the message: Kernel Missing. New install with the SmallWall CD ISO + restore config file from m0n0wall 1.8.1 works great ;-)

Just did a test, and I am not seeing it here at my end... What hardware do you have, and how big is the file you downloaded? The problem with the unsigned is that it can not tell you if the download lost a few bits.

I upgraded from m0n0wall v1.8.2 to SmallWall earlier today. The process appeared to go flawlessly. In my case it's running on a HP T5700 thin client with 256 MB RAM, a PCI expansion kit, and a Soekris dual-port PCI NIC. This hardware is quite capable to handling my 50x10 MBit Comcast service.
