MITXPC, an embeded hardware vendor in Fremont California, is now selling SmallWall equipped hardware. This means you can have a brand new, assembled and tested firewall, that is just plug and go! We have been working on this for several weeks, and I have been wanting to talk about it for quite a while! Some of the things that also make this a better option is that the default config is customized to the hardware, so "Resetting to default" does not hid your network cards. The price is also very good! About as cheap as building yourself... Check out the selection here. www.mitxpc.com/products.php?cat=140There is even one that will support two additional PCI cards, so you could have 13 ports on your firewall for well under a grand! (Depending one the price of the 4 port cards. The firewall itself is under $500) And the rack mount systems have pci-e expandability... In case you can not tell, I am a little excited about this...

This is expansion for the user. You have a PCIe 1x port and a mini-PCIe port. There is a nice selection of nics that will fit there, as well as other hardware. It gives room for future growth, and is totally open. With some creative dremel work, your could have 4 ports in one slot with this www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Express-Gigabit-Ethernet-ST1000SPEXD3/dp/B00CICQKPM and this www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Mini-PCI-Express-PCIe-Gigabit-Ethernet_106010782.html together. But they might be willing to source the cards for you if you need them to. I started working with them because of the good customer service. Doubtful. SmallWall is still on an old FreeBSD version with VERY little support for modern chipsets. It may get better with the 10.1 release, but hardware sensor support is just not sexy and does not get the attention of developers. That said, if you want to work on it, or assist with work on it, I would LOVE the contribution!

Greetings Dennis,
Lee is spot-on about this. PCI and PCI-E NIC cards are readily available online, but if you need assistance with procuring one, please give us an idea of what you're looking for and we'll be happy to help.
Yes, absolutely! The rack-mount ears are removable. You basically have 3 options: rack-mount, wall-mount, no-mount.

ok, the dual NIC one is fully supported by Smallwall? Doubtful. SmallWall is still on an old FreeBSD version with VERY little support for modern chipsets. The rack-mount ears are removable. You basically have 3 options: rack-mount, wall-mount, no-mount. Ok, so there's no option to have it rackmounted without the loops in the front?

Greetings Dennis,
Yes, the Realtek RTL8111E NIC is supported by SmallWall.
Apologies, I misinterpreted your first post. No, unfortunately the loops themselves are not removable.

Unlike Google, I do not talk about future products. Work is being done on a move to 10.1, but it is very alpha, not even beta yet.

Nice find! It should use the em driver and work fine in the current version. The chipset is fairly common and well supported. That said, I have not personally used it.

Not at this time. If you know of anyone interested, (In Europe or Aisa, or Africa) we are willing to talk! I have some leads, but I am out of town for two weeks so I am not following up like I could be.

I would try these, kundservice@komplett.se (kundservice = customer service). www.komplett.seIt's a very popular site in the nordic countries.

It looks like they are just a reseller. The SmallWall project just makes software, so we have no hardware to ship them. MITXPC is a system builder, so they are a good match. They build the system and install our software, and we work with them to make a better custom image to fit the hardware exactly.
But I may shoot them an e-mail anyway to try.
